I'm very proud to be working alongside Europe's premier photography tour company Light & Land to provide workshops and tours in the UK and further afield. For many, a workshop can be centered around the locations, of course we all love to travel and see new places but I have also created some workshops to help develop your aesthetic vision and critical eye. I also offer tours to European destinations with Light & Land where we can explore the location over a number of days and take in a new culture.

At the risk of hyperbole, this was simply a wonderful trip in a fabulous area with enormous photographic potential. The hotels were excellent as were the food and the logistical arrangements.

The key to the success of the trip, though, was the leader, Sam Gregory. He was very organised, had good knowledge of the area to optimise the photographic opportunities and he imparts his considerable photographic wisdom with a light touch and an admirable humility. I learned a great deal from him on composition, technique and post-processing. I could not have asked for anything more from this trip

Thanks for an absolutely brilliant day. Very informative, enjoyable and excellently presented.
— Tony, Wiltshire
‘Thank you for a fabulous workshop. From start to finish you were the complete professional with so much thought and preparation put into the logistics for the weekend, which went without a hitch. You have a relaxed, clear teaching style; I learned a lot from you technically and creatively. You gently pushed me out of my comfort zone, introduced me to new ideas and I left feeling totally inspired. Most importantly, I had a lot of fun along the way and am still buzzing from the experience!’

Travelling with a group of like minded photography enthusiasts is a great way to explore a new location, further your craft and make new friends. There's something quite indulgent about spending a few days just thinking about photography and immersing yourself in a great location.

With these multi-day tours and workshops we can really dig deeper into your photography - be it your methods 'in the field' (quite literally sometimes!) or simply the way of 'seeing' and visualising. There is often time to look at post-processing and collating of images as well, all of this adds up to giving you a real jump start on your photographic journey.

Your help and understanding was fantastic and you made me feel welcome from the very start. I don’t always ‘see’ compositions and am slowly getting my head around settings etc so your help and patience was much appreciated.

Simply having a few days to dedicate to photography will help you take huge strides in creating more compelling landscape images. Getting hands on advice from the tutor and also sharing experiences with other clients on the tour is a great way to build confidence. Commonly there is a mix of experience on tours and workshops and will you be made to feel comfortable whatever your level.

During a multi-day tour or workshop we'll be able to discuss, demonstrate and play with some of the following that would be relevant for a beginner or someone early in their photographic journey:

  • Understanding the basics of composition

  • Getting to grips with your camera and settings

  • The use of filters for managing light

  • Optimising your image making process on location

  • Learning to seek out patterns, themes and light

  • Fundamentals of post processing

Multi-day tours can also be a great way for more advanced photographers to explore a new location with the knowledge shared by the tutor. Not only from a geographical point of view but also from a stylistic point of view, we are all still learning at whatever level and there will always be guidance and discussions that can help you progress.

As well as offering any technical support I would be looking to stimulate the more advanced photographer with questions about why they are shooting and if they can really focus on introducing more connection or depth to their images, i.e. moving on from the fundamentals and really building meaningful bodies of work with a unique perspective. During a tour we may look at the following topics:

  • Creating meaningful portfolios and projects

  • Developing your own visual language and style

  • New techniques including ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) and ME (Multiple Exposures)

  • Advanced composition and framing

  • More abstract work

  • Alternative ways of representing the landscape
